Teacher
Certifications:
I have been teaching at Blanco High School since my youngest daughter graduated from this school in 2007. For the year before that, I worked as a paraprofessional on the District’s elementary campus. Because of my personal background, growing up in a household with my mother as a Special Education teacher in Chicago and with a disabled sister for whom I am now her guardian, I was drawn to Special Education. So, in 2008 I began my career here as the Blanco High School Life Skills Teacher, working with a severely disabled student. As the need arose for a resource teacher in other specialized areas, I used my academic background to become certified in High School Science, Social Studies and ESL. This year, I am currently teaching a General Education class in ESL Reading to assist students whose first language is not English, as well as Biology and US History Special Education/Resource classes. I also serve as an inclusion teacher in Biology and in Algebra 1 & 2.
Prior to teaching at Blanco High School, my teaching experience included:
I grew up in Chicago in a household with parent who worked as a Special Education teacher and I am still the legal guardian for my disabled sister. As a result, I developed a lifelong interest in providing services for individuals with special needs and started teaching with a focus in Special Education.
In addition, I LOVE being outside, growing plants inside the house and outside in the garden, and animals of all kinds I also am excited about science and puzzles, and learning about how things work. So, I studied Biology in college and am continually reading science journals and news articles, camping, gardening, exploring and cooking! At home, we (my family and I) find ourselves continually rescuing animals who find their way to our open food bowls; at present we have at least 12 cats and 2 dogs.
