GENERAL INFO ABOUT BIOLOGY:
Biology is the study of all things that live, from the very smallest single-celled bacteria to the largest multi-celled organisms – which include humans – and the interactions between organisms and with their surroundings. These organisms are found everywhere on earth, from the depths of the ocean to the tops of the highest trees and everywhere in between.
To study basic concepts, we will learn, practice and use new vocabulary; read a variety of texts, use models and analyze information to draw our own conclusions. To gain a better understanding of content material, we will use the Amoeba Sisters videos in class. We will also apply concepts to real-world situations by drawing Punnet Squares to show inherited traits, use dichotomous keys to identify species, and understand our own physiology. Today, more than ever, we will understand about pathogens, how they can cause disease, and what we can do to stay healthy. In the lab, we will use microscopes and other lab equipment, as well as investigate the natural world around us.
